Hi Darryl, I tried to email but it bounced.

As you know, I've been disappointed with Lunar Mission's level of public engagement. I am somewhat skeptical about the motives of modeling the development of the project around "Chapters".

I would therefore value hearing from you about your sense of the progress of the mission from your perspective, the level of participation, and the weight with which views and suggestions from outside the core team are carried forward. You're more than welcome to also contact me directly via my personal site which has a contact form.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike, it's good to see you here again, it's been awhile and I do miss your art.

It probably won't surprise you to hear that I knew of the Fermi Paradox (although i did not know it by name) and the theory behind it, which is i think a fairly sound one...a civilization progresses to a certain point (and as that fun short film in your link explains) they either make it past this or they don't (I miss the links people used to post here...from the likes of yourself, Chris from the ESA, Abi and Darryl etc it's a good way of discovering things you didn't know about)

I knew about the theory but i hadn't seen this fun short film...THANKS Mike.

Funny thing is i visted this wiki page not too long ago when a photo i had went funny and turned into what looked like code in pictorial form that had some similarity to the one seen to the right hand side of this wiki page showing the radio message we sent.

I've had some strange things happen recently and i can't get my head around it and YES i do believe that i captured something large on the moon (a UFO) during that Eclipse (was it an error pixel? or similar? well it isn't just one or two pixels and to my knowledge such a thing would NOT also leave a shadow?) any ideas Mike? your an intelligent fellow.

I don't know if the rumours are true about Aldwin & Armstrong during Apollo 11? you must have read about them Mike? with trackscripts saying they saw something big during this mission and commented on it, later in life (and it's on YouTube) Neil Armstrong gives a rare heartfelt speech with what appears to be a coded message? of course i and others might be reading more into it...i really do like to be considered but it's a strange speech towards the end there almost signalling that he knew more but was unable or unwilling to say so?

If true, it makes sense that THEY will wait until we have passed this point, we're now some 75 years into it and humans are still somewhat crazy (well the politicians and military anyway along with those few really in charge ;) who are still sadly MONEY & POWER Mad!!! argghh)

Things don't seem to be getting any better (Putin in charge of Russia and god forbid Trump becomes president! what has happened to America?) i hope we get past such a point and FINALLY grow up as a race, by all means have your own beliefs, religions, whatever? i just hope we all learn to respect them (troublesome with some when they believe in just one race or one relgion...how do we tolerate that? we can't) the truth will be realised one day and meeting a new race might help in this matter? hopefully we will grow up before then as one united race, regardless of colour, sexuality or religion but sadly i don't think i'll ever see the day...normal folk (for the most part) seem fine but those in charge seem to want to dictate things rather than co-operate to help us all...half the planet is starving!!! and in yet in other parts of the world obesity as at an all-time high!!! craziness.

This is a strange thing to say i suppose but at times i really do feel like an ALIEN when i see what it is we are doing to each other (angry face) most news days seems to bring shame to us as a race...i long for that day that this changes and most news days are one of discovery, acts of kindness, inventions to better mankind/womankind...i'll contine to DREAM at least.

We are probably NOT ready for contact (sadly for folks like myself) and we might NOT ever reach that point (be it due to ourselves or not) but i'm ever the optimist and should we do so just watch us SOAR...if we finally figure out that battling ourselves is a stupid, worthless endeavor then maybe we could become a wonderful asset to the cosmos rather than just a footnote.

BIG QUESTION for you MIKE (and a bit of fun)
Assuming there is life out there (a fairly safe bet i'd say) and they have been monitoring us for centuries (quiet possible?) let's then assume they have not actually contacted us yet.

The Question is...If we were in their shoes would we wait until this so called point was reached for us before making contact? i guess it's the star trek non-directive isn't it? which states we should not interfere with planets that are not advanced enough...

HOWEVER...
what if we found a planet many years from now that was similar to ours in which they might be heading in the wrong direction? is this just how it has to be? we/they either reach that point on their own in which we/they are then validated and worthy of being adventurers in outer space or might we stop to help?

I can understand the not interfering stance but i would find it very difficult to witness a planet suffering with illness or viruses etc that we could perhaps cure, also, what if? say a comet/asteroid was on collision course with that planet would you save it with the obviously advanced technology at hand...i would find it difficult not to help them, surely this is what we would do? and who's to say this might not have happened?

An interesting debate i hope that i'll open up to all you folks out there

I guess that posting was yet another HEARTFELT plea for us as a race to get our act together.

SKY AT NIGHT was fun this week (repeated Thursday on BBC4) showing what they considered to be the 5 most important photographs from all of our space probes / projects.

CARL SAGAN's 'Blue' dot is an interesting one...Good on him to suggest they turn Voyager around to take it....as he says everyone we have ever known or loved has remained on this blue dot (our 'Beautiful' home) let us hope this won't always be the case...Time to Spread our Wings.

Hi Paul, that you're aware of the Fermi Paradox isn't a surprise as you're a mine of information about the sky above! Yes, you're right, and I couldn't agree more: sharing unlocks our knowledge and understanding.

I've not been active here on the LM1 forum as no one from the mission is moved to respond. I was struck by a post made over three months ago headed "Developing Community Challenges and LM Labs" by Lewis Pinault, the Space Innovations Advisor at Satellite Applications (Catapult) and part of the LM1 "Sales & Marketing Team" which ends "Hoping to hear from all of you":

Ummm. I replied but never heard back...

About your shot of the moon and an unidentified object. If it was a visitor from another world, they're using technologies well beyond our capabilities of tracking or recording them - that's possible. I suspect other keen observers would have verified or come across equivalent footage however. For us to see a speck from this distance would mean that speck would be absolutely vast. I think about the scale of a city from space, and from the same distance... I'm not saying it isn't a visitor from another place, but in this instance I suspect it's unlikely, but then, what is that moving object? There is nothing so healthy as a good mystery to get your teeth into :)

Yes, many are doing a great job of positioning our species as ruthless and full with greed, but you know me, I'm an eternal optimist and believe good people will overcome the shortsighted and self interested.

The Big Question

Tomorrowland, a thought provoking movie, contemplates this scenario. Humans haven't much cared for other species who have shared the earth. Rather than not intervening, we have been (and continue to be) instrumental in the extinction of numerous living things. But what if I were looking down from my starship on our planet. What would be my view? Star Trek's prime directive (a prohibition of Starfleet personnel from interfering with the internal development of alien civilizations) is a rational position, as any influence (including the peaceful sharing of culture, art and views) would inevitably change the development of that species, however my personal view is that compassion trumps rational argument. I may for example understand the rational and grave risk of entering a burning building to save a child, but I would not prohibit anyone from doing so. I'd stop that comet :)

I will publish more art on the lunar mission gallery in future, however I've been busy on other creative projects as I wait to see how the mission develops - in January the LM1 blog stated "it will probably take a few more months before we can make announcements. Please be patient." so, I am, being, patient...

You're always welcome to enjoy more of my work at 100 Artworks Today as well as at the Lunar Mission Gallery.

May your wings carry you far a wide!

Kind Regards,

Mike

Mike, i have sadly noted your frustrations.

Way back I suggested an idea that migt hopefully involve the possibilty of your art on a pre-paid card that might easily be purchased at any large store (a Tesco, ASDA or John Lewis, this later one got me a little excited (you may remember) last christmas as i thought LM1 had done a deal with them to sell LM1 to the public, sadly it was just their own very nice Xmas Tv Ad)

Funding is I think the main priority, i really do think a Tv Advertising Campaign is the way to go (let's tap into that wonderful Christmas Nostalgic Spirit...make it clear though that this project is at the buyer's own risk in the hope it is fully funded) but this alone might not be enough! in which case we'll need partners (sadly...i would LOVE for this to have been a space project fully funded by the general public but if needs be? i'd rather have the mission go ahead than not) and the BIGGER the better, possibly with advertisers too.

I have suggested other ideas for the project as you know :) which i hope are implemented, the selfie picture on the Moon (with Earth in the background) could help to fund other missions for many years to come (so long as these photo's could be uploaded to be taken and then downloaded back to Earth) this would obviously mean a HD camera (or two as a back-up) as well as one or preferably two (again just in case) pop out screens and i'd have thought this was a low cost...high gain option? credit to Darryl also for this idea.
These screens could also be used by future generations to play back our data sent here by LM1 (i'm sure a port could be easily created in the craft enabling them to play-back all this data otherwise what's the point?)
The Drone is something that to my knowledge has never been done before? and i hope a way can be figured out to make this work and happen?
I LOVED someone else's idea of seperate camera hexagon types being ejected with a number of camera's within each as the craft is about to land....giving us a kind of 380 recording.
Occulus Rift or similar types may be the next big thing...so a camera for play-back on these devices would be amazing (especially if attached to a drone or mini rover) imagine putting the head gear on and becoming a virtual astronaut on the Moon :-)

I must admit there has been a somewhat lack of replies or updates at this time as to what is happening.
Please try contacting Darryl again if you can, some of your answers may be found here ;-)

As for that object (UFO) i've discovered on the Moon...it is a huge mystery to me.

You bring up an interesting point about how come no one else managed to photograph it (and believe me i've been searching and the only thing i found was that video footage which is just one of the reasons i started to think i had captured something amazing...well that and the fact that the burst of light from the bottom edge of our moon appears to cast a large and correct shadow on this object!) you may have seen that other UFO photo I captured and I can tell you that was not seen nor heard on that day? very strange appearing over the train with what appears to be another bigger longer craft above it? if these were alien craft? perhaps they phase in and out? multi-dimensional?
From what i can gather the one on the Moon is not any orbiting satalite or crater or impact and the photo when blown up my new pc is simply strange...as you can't help but look at it and say yes that's something on the moon casting a relative shadow.
Your right about the size, it does look the same size as say a city as viewed from earth orbit (i've tried to figure out the size but it's difficult...any help from anyone would be appreciated? but my best guess is that it's showing an object that is a minimum of 2 miles but looks like it could be as many as 6 miles in size! could you IMAGINE a craft of that size??? it is missing from subsequent pictures i took (although there are anomalies on other photo's) which brings me to two conclusions...
It's a craft of somekind (and a BIG one at that) ours? that would be perhaps more amazing than if it were alien? or it is a fault and everything about it tells me it is NOT a fault.

As for our species...i truly LOVE the good one's :-) but the minority are giving us a bad rep :(

The Big Question

Pleased with your answer Mike, the comet your right is a no brainer (they would very likely know no different and so life for them would carry on as normal) so yes to saving them from any comet and/or asteroid strike.

The other question is (as you say) a little more difficult...
A planet suffering from a worldwide problem? well if in the future we are able to help without influence to their culture then again it's no brainer like you i would cure them, how?
well by that time we'd be clever (have better tech perhaps) to figure this out.
If however it means we would have no choice but to show ourselves then it becomes far more tricky (there have been some good Star Trek episodes and other SF episodes that have considered this dilemma)
If needs be to help a dying civilazation...perhaps a quick here's your medicine we're off...get well quick & see ya soon might be best policy? I would find it difficult to leave an early intelligent race to die out or for millions/billions of them to suffer.

It may well be a debate that becomes real one day...and so something we may have to consider.

"Tomorrowland" that is a wonderfully uplifting film full of HOPE and one I would recommend to all families with children...i hope all our WINGS will fly one day Mike (good to see ya back)
