Please Do NOT read past here if you have not yet seen this WONDERFUL film...

Ok, so you've seen it? GOOD wasn't it? a proper grown up Science Fiction film but i can appreciate it won't be for everyone.

Very different to 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'

Fans of 2001 A Space Odyssey might notice a few nice nods to this classic film (the gloved hand making contact with the ship = astronauts touching the
monolith upon our Moon & then the first time we visit the area in which the aliens are secure behind a monolith shaped window separating them from us, this is the colour opposite of the 2001 monolith this being white instead of black)

It's funny really because this film headed in a direction i had not expected but is one i have previously discussed here on these forums
regarding 'TIME'

Time (as we understand it) is crucial to us, we plan our day (the present) around it, we remember & learn from what has gone before (our past / history) and we try to plan for the future but TIME could just about be the strangest thing of all?
I liked that this film added this 'TIME' element into the plot along with the actual arrival of the aliens, it's crucial to the plot (as you folks reading this will know) & it added to a most unusual & brilliant grown up SF story.

So, this particular species had 'TIME' figured out (to some degree) & were offering it to us by way of a gift that would require us to learn their language which once truly mastered would give us the ability to perceive TIME the way they do enabling us to see what is to come in the future.
This is put to great use by the first to master it LOUISE (the Awesome Amy Adams) who uses it to change the Chinese General's mind by way of seeing her future & by getting his personal phone number & telling him the words spoken to him by his wife the day she dies (which is being given to her as she actually speaks to him) in so doing he calls off any aggressive action & the blackout & offers everything discovered by them to all the other 12 nations around the World (IT'S A GOOD THOUGHT isn't it?) in so doing the crisis is averted & that's why the 12 ships, each had a piece of the information & wanted all of us to...CO-OPERERATE with each other (if ONLY!)

This film will NOT be for everyone but WOW is it an interesting & thoughtful watch.

The special effects are especially well done & the alien creatures (Abbott & Costello) are very cleverly filmed, i honestly thought the Oscars a few weeks ago had spoiled the look of them but i now know they hadn't & as you know they do NOT look anything like those squid types, oh no, they are even more MAGNIFICENT, IMPRESSIVE & BIG, we never get to see their faces (if they have one? not sure they did?) but that's ok as it keeps them even more mysterious.

My father & i have spoken about what (if anything?) we would change? or do differently? given the chance & if you could...there are some things.

Here the future father (Ian) of Louise's 2nd daughter (shown to her by the aliens) simply says he would have said what he felt more often, i think this would go for all of us right? so often we bottle up our feelings and perhaps don't say i LOVE you or i LIKE you or even i am just not having a good day today more often.

My sister & i had a ding dong conversation about this film...

She thought Ian was the father of Louise's 1st child but I am fairly certain he wasn't...they gave her the gift of perceiving time but she did not know him before meeting him for the first time on that helicopter? right?
I did find it interesting that Louise was shown a time in her future showing her this unknown 2nd child but then seeing this daughter look up to her and ask why her father had left? with Louise saying it's because SHE made the wrong decision, implying he (Ian) left because she did not inform him that she was carrying this rare decease that it would seem be passed onto this 2nd child?
At least that's how i saw it & if so then how very SAD but that's life, we do NOT see Ian when time is flashed forward to Louise being celebrated & introduced to the Chinese General so by this time he has already left then? only some 18 months into the future :(

A HERO Woman (she SAVES the DAY) these days in film is still a RARE thing but a flawed one is even more rare! and a BOLD way to go.
Unlike 'Enchanted' another wonderful Amy Adams film there is no real HAPPY EVER AFTER here for her.

"So Hannah this is where your story begins...and despite knowing where it leads i embrace it, but i don't now believe in beginnings &
endings" so perhaps THIS is why she makes the choice she does of having this 2nd baby? although to see one's child eventually suffer is a choice i find
difficult to comprehend but like i said a BOLD way to go? unless I have got it very wrong?

Interesting to see the Whitehouse Spokesperson here say "We have a protocol for a scenario like This" i BET THEY DO (a whole "Andromeda Strain" like set-up I would bet)

It's a sombre film with a soundtrack that adds to this feeling with what almost seemed like whale or dolphin sound signatures? which of course is their
way of communicating.

In the end the film has a couple of messages & they're VERY GOOD ONE's i think...

WE NEED TO LEARN TO GET ON WITH EACH OTHER (perhaps before we can get on with any new alien species) sadly for me who would dearly like to
meet one (especially if they looked like THIS) can you imagine meeting creatures as spectacular as ABBOTT & COSTELLO? in their SHELL :)

Also, we need to TREASURE THOSE MOMEMENTS that bring happiness, joy, enlightenment & even excitement to us all at times in our lives, these might only be glimpsing for some of us sadly but HOLD ONTO THEM DEAR (if at all possible) for they are WHAT MAKES US.

This is a TERRIFIC & Thought provoking picture...and i LOVED it!

BLADE RUNNER 2049 it would seem is in good safe hands with this director (i hope)

Arrival's creatures from another place ended up being a BIG surprise.

Impressive Creatures & wonder what they'll be like out there?

Can you imagine visiting a Planet & Encountering huge creatures, even more amazing if like this they were intelligent too.

Some where out there are perhaps thousands of alien civilizations that perhaps at one time existed and then disappeared as here on Earth or they in their early stages or they have been around for many thousands if not millions of years which if they continued to advance would make them almost like GOD like creatures to us meeting them...I envy those in the future that might do so but then again? who knows what they may think of us?

I like the odd sequel from time to time & although it perhaps does not warrant such a thing, it might be interesting to see in a follow-up film where Louise heads & if this species returns.

I have since read that there was a kind of deal in this film...but I mist admit I MISSED IT...apparently somewhere within this film it is stated that this species will ONE DAY (approx. 3,000 years into OUR FUTURE) will need our help.

That might be an interesting film to watch, although they can see the future they cannot change it themselves & perhaps think we can?
I wonder what this might be?

The accompaniments are chiefly well done and the stranger animals are shrewdly shot, I genuinely thought the half a month previous had insolvent the look of them. Read more at Masterpaperwriters.com

Hello once again James, although it is clear to me your using this as a marketing ploy  I shall once again pitch in with a reply as i'm a friendly sort & there is NO ONE ELSE

Of course I agree as to how these creatures were shot & the reveal at the end was really a rather nice surprise as I had gone through the majority of this film thinking I knew (more or less) what they looked like (even when they moved off after communicating they appeared to have a rounded top to them) so I was thrilled when the reveal showed that what we had seen was basically only their FEET :)

Very otherworldly creatures & although meeting a species such as this would be daunting I would like to think I would summon up the courage to do so.
