Well Stephen I believe the reason those Moon Rocks are so expensive is because they were the first ever recovered and were from the historic APOLLO Moon Missions.
Nice article btw.
Should LM-1 be a success (fingers crossed & I believe it will be) then Lunar Missions have already indicated that LM-2 will probably be one that gathers and returns Moon samples.
Now perhaps I am being naïve but we'll see if it's ALL about money!!! or NOT.
For sure they will would still be worth something come this mission (LM-2) but certainly not the amounts mentioned like this.
We'll be up there on a regular basis not too long from now and they will be like collecting a pebble from a beach but for now and for awhile more they
will of course always have a value...but only for so long.
I see no reason why Lunar Missions could not & would not reward all those original backers 7297 with a very small Moon Rock sample (approx. the size of an M&M) should LM-2 be successful, I think it would be a wonderful gesture and the people running this do not seem (at least to me) to be money motivated, they're interested in information and our advancement.
Sure we need to raise the money to get these missions up and running but that's what these original Kickstarter backers help do...so such a lovely gesture would be AMAZING! and they'd have more than enough returned I'd imagine to be able to do this whilst still having more than enough to analyse and make experiments on.
The Dilemma might well be if each were offered such a rock & they were worth let us say £10,000 would they? would you sell them?
I understand to some including myself that to do so would help them out a lot but that's their choice.
I could never see myself selling ours (I'd never say never) but it would just mean to much too me and my father...
YOU MIGHT OWN A SMALL PIECE of OUR MOON...how COOL would that be!!! and from our very own Mission, it would be very difficult to part with but would be interesting to hear what you folks think?
As for the cost of the meteorites...thanks I had no idea, sounds kinda pricey still to me $50 for a piece half the size of a matchhead!!!!
That's not to say it wouldn't be cool to own a piece of Space rock Debris but I like the idea of owning a piece of our Moon more

Hi Paul,
The uncanny thing about Moon Rocks collected by various Apollo missions is that there are none available for sale.
Any returned samples via Lunar Mission Ones future missions should be geared towards science. But a personal sample would be nice.
As for selling it, nope!!!! But I can see the temptation though.
For $50 maybe you might get a full match head size but you are getting a piece of the Moon. $50 for a non Lunar Meteorite can get you more substantial pieces depending on what one is looking for. The following article might give some additional insight to anyone interested in Lunar Meteorites (Moon Rocks) which is from the Washington University in St. Louis. Click here . I might just start a thread later about Lunar Meteorites.

Thanks Stephen, I've saved that page, looks interesting.
By all means open up a new topic...it should be fun to read.
I'm with you...Should the Original Backers ever be offered a free Moon Rock for getting this off the ground
or even be asked for a small contribution to enable each of us to own a small piece of the Moon then I'd be
delighted (which of us wouldn't?) and would find it a rather emotional gesture.
You wouldn't sell, I wouldn't sell it but I wonder if any of the 7297 would?
I would not be against any of them doing so should they feel the need, your probably right and they would possible bring a decent
sum (even in 10-15 years time) but like you I just could never see myself selling as it would mean way to much to me.
But as Connery said of 007 "NEVER SAY NEVER"
I don't know if Lunar Missions might do this? I've had words but it's obviously way too soon and if they did I wonder
if they could do what NASA did and have them sealed in a protective bubble or Perspex for display possibly with a Lunar Missions 2
plaque? I would certainly pay the extra for this...At this point just a DREAM but I like dreaming

Yeah it's a real nice patch isn't it? great design and don't forget only the original backers get these!
They are very similar to those worn by the now sadly defunct Space Shuttle Crew who wore them on their space suit arms.
I need to frame this up for my father sooner rather than later (thanks for the reminder)
Perhaps one day I may get to strap it onto my arm (in 10-20 years time if still around) for that hoped for trip to orbit.
Your son may well be strapping this to his arm for an actual trip to the moon one day...How I envy him.
