Paul Conway created the topic: LM-1 CAMERA'S? Take a LOOK at this...
Picked up the latest Argos Catalogue this weekend and noticed this AWESOME Video Camcorder, Take a LOOK here...
www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3559596.htm
And they have this already!!! and for what will by Christmas be under £300...not doing the sell thing but Wow! if Joe Public can get something like this now which has a 360 degree Motion Activated FULL HD Camera (of course 4K is coming soon which has 4xHigher detail than this) and it also doubles as a 16 MegaPixel Camera...is Shockproof, Dustproof & FreezeProof down to -10...ALL for less than £300!!!
Now imagine what the Camera's on LM-1 will be like the mind boggles.
It will almost certainly be self powered somehow/someway (solar still most likely?) and surely will have 4K SUPER HD Video with Camera double-up and shall of course be Dustproof / Freeze proof / Solar Flare proof? and wouldn't it be cool if ours was also capable of 190/ 380 Degrees...I mean why not?
I could see something like this sitting atop of our craft but as most of you here (you are still here right?) might know I'm hoping they'll include a camera or two built (a back-up is a good idea if possible) into the solar panels for 'SELFIE'S on the MOON' Pictures (if we can upload them from Earth it could be a source of income for many years to come) but something like this Kodak camera could easily be added to the top of the craft right?
Only it will hopefully be far more advanced.
Oh and I still like the idea of of a Mini Moon Buggy or a Moon Drone (now that would be a first) being sent to the Moon with mini cameras and perhaps other experiments strapped to them
If they have this kind of camera today (2015) then just what will LM-1's Camera's have in 2024? when it lands.
How about a 3D Virtual Reality Camera
Can you imagine the kids getting their hands on one of the new 'OCULUS RIFT' Virtual Reality Headsets (they're supposed to be available this Christmas) and if we can shoot HD 3D Virtual Reality on the Moon and perhaps take it places (explore the Shakelton Crater for one) and then let everyone with such tech like the Oculus Rift view it on their headsets (all you need then is commentary from an expert to show the kids and us older folks where we are and what we are seeing) it would BLOW THEIR / OUR MINDS!!!
We'd be on the Moon! well ok it would give us a good sense of it.
I believe we'll be pushing the boundaries of Tech on this mission come 2024 and I hope something like this might even be old news by the time it happens...they say 3D Holographic Tv is now not too far away but that's probably gonna be a little expensive to start with so how about this OCULUS RIFT type 3D Camera's? this is pioneering right? we need to have different & newer things attached to this mission right?
New experiments...I know not of what? as much has already been done, we'll know about the inner Moon which is exciting.
PS: This is nothing to do with LM-1 Camera's but if your a fan of quirky, independent movies you might want to check out "Safety Not Guaranteed", I caught it on Film4 recently (and they tend to repeat them) and the acting was superb, especially the doush-bag who...well if you watch you'll see, it's such a shame we can't embrace people that are different & bit quirky

Thanks, Paul! Amazingly one of our very own supporters in Norway is developing an amazing camera. Can't say too much about it and of course we don't get to the stage where we specify what kit will be on board for quite some time yet. But it's great to know that so many new technologies will be available to us )
Meanwhile, my partner is enjoying filming with his new drone, equipped with a 4K camera....imagine THAT one flying over the surface of the moon, Paul!

Hi Angela,
I still perhaps get a little over enthused over this mission (even now)
I'll be forever thankful to all of you that made this happen.
A Space Mission the general public can participate in, and still all these months later it rekindles that spirited little kid in me that looked up at the moon late on a Sunday night (after watching Space 1999) and dreaming of perhaps visting there one day.
Just wondering if that idea about the camera (sounds interesting) came from the father who had those two smart children join us as Luminauts? I think they came from Norway? but my memory is now not what it was
Yes, what weird & wonderful things will hitch a ride on our LM1?
It sounds like your partner loves the type of tech toys I like
That drone sounds awesome and with 4K camera...calling him back in for tea will be difficult
I wonder if we could get something like this up onto the Moon?
I need to start saving now for one of those 'Oculus Rift' Headsets, I saw I demo for a Star Wars playable game that's earmarked for it in which it showed just about every Star Wars craft & ship you could pilot or run down...it could well be the new face of gaming?
But can you imagine it as a learning tool too? all in kind of realistic 3D (they're getting better & better at it)
But can you imagine strapping a Rift onto your head and going for a tour from LM1 Launch to Touching down on the Moon and Beyond (exploring all around our landing site) that would be so COOL....stick it in schools and they might stick with the SPACE thing
Yup I've become such a Geek!!!
Appreciate the reply Angela as it has gone a little quiet here over the Summer (understandably) but looking forward to all the landmarks we'll encounter with this mission over the years...could get fun when we are able to upload & view all the photo's and video, seeing the design of the ship/craft for the first time, learning of what will be included on this mission (come on Selfie screens & cameras)
Enjoy the rest of the Summer & Thanks Again

We are using some of those Kodak cameras as the navigation cameras to test a new long range pathfinding software on our robots. They are great little cameras, of course would need a lot of changes for space/lunar environment.

Thanks, Kisdia, we look forward to hearing more! I agree, camera's for use in a lunar environment have to be able to withstand some pretty crazy conditions, such as wild temperature variations for one. But...imagine how amazing it would be if everyone put a video in their Digital Memory Box. The archives will be opened in the far, far future - we don't know by whom (or what!) and the contents of all the Memory Boxes will give them a picture of life in the 21st Century, long ago. Can you imagine seeing videos of old-fashioned things that are no longer on Earth, such as cars, mobile phones and washing machines?
