This (i do admit) might just be a little too gimmicky but perhaps could be a good back-up by way of funding as well as providing a bit more fun for the mission.
As you can see from my Avatar I had a bit of fun with it and made my father a Lego Astronaut heading towards the Moon (in shadow)
Many of you know that I still have some doubts as to if the funding for this mission can be achieved by simply web sales alone (btw I would still love to know how many new members have been added to the original 7297?) but I won't add to what I've already said about a targeted Christmas Advertising Campaign (oh have you folks seen the latest from John Lewis for insurance with the delightful young Ballerina? good isn't it? they really know how to do great Tv Ads)
Well if we do not go the above route then how about this to possible help?
LEGO is a hugely profitable and successful company and a fun partnership with them could perhaps provide a huge percentage of the funding by offering a place on LM-1 for one of their Lego Astronaut figures (would be the most expensive ticket for any Lego figure ever)
Lego could have fun with this! they could have a World Wide Competition to name him/her, the marketing possibilities for Lego could be endless, they could have a design competition too...so why wouldn't Lego be interested in such an opportunity and be willing to pay his/her fare.
If the people of the world get behind this and fund it the normal way great, it's the way to go I agree but perhaps this might be worth considering? as a quirky back-up option.
One perhaps LM-1 might want to consider and could perhaps make contact with Lego about? or is it just simply too gimmicky?

Minnaloushe creeps through the grass,
From moonlit place to place,
The sacred moon overhead,
Has taken a new phase.

I think it's a good idea. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I also loved LEGO as a kid. Still do

Thanks Doug, Lego is huge right now isn't it and I actually believe it would be right up their alley (I'm sure they'd jump at the chance to get involved in this and with it help part fund the mission)
I figure there will be some (perhaps more seriously minded members) that will not like this idea at all (I'm ok and can understand this) it could just be a simple back up plan (if needed) on the other hand LM-1 could simply open it up to Lego here and now anyway? it would help both parties I believe...they could help promote this whole adventure / mission...Kids would LOVE it, you and I would LOVE it, yes it's a bit quirky but why not?
I feel it might just add some excitement for "normal" folks who still don't see Space & Space Missions as exciting and so perhaps open up this mission to those that might not otherwise be interested in it? just a thought.

Wow Darryl, this is the second time i've thought up an idea only to be told it's up on Kickstarter, ok they're slightly different but very similar, remember the selfie from earth orbit kickstarter project, my version was the selfie shown on a screen on LM1 that would show the Moon along with our beautiful Earth in the background, I still think it's a good 'un and still hope Lunar Missions will go with it? you came up with this idea before me, even though I didn't know it...great minds huh
And now this!!! except of course my idea is kind of spoofing the moon landing with the Astronaut Lego figure that would be hitching a ride onboard LM1 and then might perhaps? be released to set foot on the moon, it could bring in great funding from Lego and i'm sure would interest children around the world as well as help co-fund the mission.
I was still surprised to read about this new kickstarter mission, Oded well he won't be setting foot on the Moon
I do like this kickstarter project and the pricing is amazing!, technically though (in my eyes) it's still NOT a true postcard making the journey physically, it will not be moving through actual space (just the image sent from there) but it's still a first and can only applaud them for this.
£1 for 1 postcard image sent to anywhere around the world!!! WOW! this is good! they should achieve their funding.
Loving Space Mission Patches as i do I may well be in for the £10 package...thinking it over now! certainly the £1
Thanks for this Darryl, I honestly had no idea about this and no doubt my next idea well also show up on Kickstarter soon too
A Lego Astronaut Figure could be designed especially by Lego for our mission that could be made of very light weight plastic that would add next to nothing to the payload & yet could add a great deal in terms of funding (maybe?)
Perhaps someone at LM's could contact Lego about this? (someone high up in the chain at LM1) as i'm sure Lego would go for this.
Lego could have competitions for the name of the astronaut, name of the mission he or she is on, a design competition (type of suit he/she would wear) the kids would lap it up don't you think?
I want Space & Space Missions to start registering with more of the general public...and perhaps this might help in a fun way?
Thanks again for the heads up on this Postcard from Space Kickstarter project (it will be my 2nd only! all space themed)
BTW wasn't that a fun promo video? goofy guy starts (that'll be me)...but is taken over by a better more professional presenter...but ends with the goof thinking he's done a good job...he's got nothing on Angela
