Paul Conway created the topic: VR 360 Links & Thoughts -Xmas Present of the Year?
Virtual Reality headsets & the ability for more people to use them sure has got easier & cheaper than I thought they would...which makes them a GREAT Christmas Present this year, perhaps THE Christmas present THIS year?
It was only last year I talked about the Occulus Rift and that should LM1 take place it would be great if we could have a 360 VR record of the landing and a trip in and around our landing site (possibly using rovers or drone footage?) now that would be COOL and now that we have a system that's far cheaper and easier to access VR360 than the costly rift...ALL you need is just a smartphone and a VR headset (you can even buy cardboard viewers for just a few pounds) well it seems they could be about to take off quicker than i'd imagined.
I have NOT yet dipped my toe into the world of VR360 but it does appeal to me, although i don't want the majority of the human race retreating into a VR world 24/7 (if some are to be believed we are already in a VR world or part of a game, so if we take trip into another VR world then we'll be in a game within a game)
I have just purchased one for my sister however for Christmas...it's not the cardboard type (although I've heard they're fine) but it's one up from this made of plastic but still ya basic type...hope she likes it? and I hope to get a go on Christmas Day...a great retreat for this day for some perhaps?
I do think these VT headsets are a great tool to vist places and witness things we'll probably (sadly) never see for real and even as a learning tool.
So to prepare for possible experiences these VR360 may have that appeal to me (i'm sure my sister will have petting cuddly dogs & cats and the like) I went a searching on YouTube and found some BRILLIANTLY Inventive VR360 Worlds that I think you folks and your Kids might like...
CHECK 'EM OUT...
This first one is an approach to PLUTO and it even shows that small rocky outcrop which looks so strange to me (the one with ALL the strange shapes upon it...you get to see this as you approach at 2mins 24seconds in, of course this is probably partly done with computer imagery & info from the actual photo's? still interesting, wish they'd have landed right next to this)
Oh and even if you don't have access to a VR360 headset you can still move around (well the angle view anyway...the moving around will surely come soon enough?) using that directional curser at the top of the screen (you can even pause the video and move it around) GREAT FUN but I bet even BETTER if your fully into it with a VR360 headset...hope to see on the 25th
Now being a Film Fan this truly ENCHANTED me...this is exceptionally well done, follow the beam of light at the beginning and I do hope that you will be as charmed by this as I was (can't wait to see this one in VR360) I would also recommend the movie "HUGO" to you all but this KINOSCOPE is just WONDERFUL.
I've spoken of my wish to witness our BEAUTIFUL Planet EARTH from high orbit for REAL!!! and I still hope one way or another this may come to pass but for now this ain't a bad second (again can't wait to put the headset on for this)
And on from Earth (lovely as it is) to venture further afield...
And the next is very much for the kids...and we grown up's who still think we are kids
Your a pilot in an X-Wing heading for the Death Star....YEHAAAA now let's blow this Kid & Go Home!
And finally something a little more for the male adult (mainly) but don't worry it's not THAT type but it is very BARBARELLA'ish (a film I adore) but this is super FUN & very well done with an amusing ending. Nah, I wouldn't have said anything either
There are plenty more but these are just a few I hope to see in 360...now imagine if you are able to interact with what it is you are seeing!
I look forward to them blending games with movies so that you can become the star of the movie or just a bit part in the film...today matthew i'm going to be JAMES BOND LOOKS like it will happen sooner than we realised?
ENJOY
