So many of you folks may well know that I truly LOVE this quiet REMARKABLE film made by Stanley Kubrick some nearly 50 YEARS AGO now!

It is as good if NOT better than any highly regarded piece of Artwork (be it a sculpture or painting) or literature (pick a BOOK any book) or piece of Music.

In fact it could be argued that it takes a little from ALL of these & blends them into a whole that is something even to this day that has people, fans, newcomers to the film STILL TALKING ABOUT IT.

How did he do it...the making of is jaw dropping...the actual creation of sets (MOON & DISCOVERY)

It's a BEAUTIFUL piece of film making which even TODAY you'd find difficult to better, even Christopher Nolan's wonderful "INTERSTELLAR" falls way short of this (although it was a highly creditable attempt by another fine modern filmmaker...it would be interesting to see him give it another go in the science fiction Universe)

So with the 50th Anniversary closing in soon...what delights will be on offer to us?

My father saw this originally at a huge 70mm screening with a wrapped screen....the likes of which we don't really have today (IMAX is fun and a little curved) but my dad said this thing had you sat almost in the middle of the thing...SO if his memory is not clouded then THAT would have been SOME EXPERIENCE...might have felt like being ON THE MOON or in DEEP SPACE with "Discovery"

Lots of stories to go around with this film & some with the director that if you choose to find out are very interesting (of course the did we FAKE or at least re-enact some of the staging of the APOLLO Missions with a similar tech team from this film & director?)
Pure MYTH I would suggest but interesting nevertheless.

The film as everyone knows by now is divided into 3 SEGMENTS (I LOVE all 3) but being a SPACE Fan parts 2 & 3 are my favourites.

Segment 1) EARLY MAN...and the transformation (EVOULTION of MAN) some say this has already begun again? the NEXT STAGE in our EVOULTION? well I am not so sure of that! but what I am sure of is that in time we shall yet again CHANGE...into what? well let's just say if we do not blow ourselves up (and all of our governments, the military & The ELITE are so BAT CRAZY NUTS that we may well do so) then come back to EARTH in say not even millions of years time but perhaps as early as just 1 or 2 thousand years time (so 3017 say) and through DNA manipulation & breakthrough's which may tap into the way this part of the brain (not used) WILL be & so by this time WE may have changed out of all recognition?
So come back to EARTH in 500,000 years time & just WHAT in the WORLD might we find here? how would we look & act, will we still be individuals (oh I hope so) will we still all look differently?

The Jump scene at the end of this Segment is TRULY ASTONISHING....a bone thrown up into the air changes as it descends into a man made SPACECRAFT, in one unbelievably clever edit (cut) we have skipped thousands of years!

Segment 2) Is the MONOLITH found upon the MOON (you still don't think that HOLLYWOOD & the Movie Industry might not know things? )
And whilst I delight in the final segment (3) with "DISCOVERY" and the "JUPITER MISSION" & HAL9000 I do find this segment to be my favourite (JUST)
Well as you might imagine it involves...

DISCOVERY...No not the ship (which btw was again very cleverly said to be modelled after the shape of a single Human Sperm as it ventured into the depths of Space...Looking for SOMETHING? well it wasn't an egg this time or perhaps it was (as we see in the FINAL SHOT of this Film)

Yes this 2nd segment is a TOUR DE FORCE from Kubrick in my eyes....the Blue Danube sequence is ONE of MY FAVOURITE ALL TIME MOVIE Scenes as the Orion shuttle catches up & then synch's with the Orbiting Space Station...MAJESTIC.
Then we get Dr Floyd taking 'THE TALK' & then off to CLAVIUS to see for himself this remarkable discovery (COULD you IMAGINE it? well if some folks are right? then a simple (well NOT QUIET so simple) MONOLITH buried under the MOON is like nothing we might have already discovered SAD they could not let us all know IF TRUE? of course.
So another wonderful flight down to the MOON whilst eating a snack...THIS is a COOL sequence! as is an almost sublime 2nd evolution sequence (when FLOYD touches the Monolith on the MOON)

Cut to...

Segment 3) Another huge favourite of mine "THE JUPITER MISSION" & of course HAL & the Spacecraft "DISCOVERY" show up along with astronauts DAVE BOWMAN & FRANK POOLE (both actors would NEVER get BETTER roles than those here)
Everyone remembers the HAL breakdown & of course the STARGATE Jump to where exactly? this is a curious sequence & gets people talking all the time, there is the attempted rescue of Frank & the WONDERFUL Sequence in which BOWMAN tries to REASON with HAL to let him back inside the ship (OPEN the POD BAY DOORS please HAL) as good a sequence as you will ever find on film!
HAL is then taken apart which in this modern world we have today & Memory Loss now more evident seems to get more SAD with each passing viewing....and then as I say this STARGATE SEQUENCE (the one's the pot smokers LOVED back in the 1960's) it gets interesting & thought provoking after this though when Bowman sees his old self until we reach that final shot...

THE STARCHILD.

So many people have differing views on what it is that they have just watched with this film & this ENDING in particular?

Well to me it is fairly evident but of course things can be read differently but taken as whole....

THIS WAS A JOURNEY, a DISCOVERY & PERHAPS either a Correction in our DNA (at the end) or the ULTIMATE EVOULTIONAL Jump for MANKIND.

We never see PLANET EARTH below so we don't really know how many years have passed? if any at all? later books would follow suggesting it wasn't long afterwards at all? it would be interesting to know if Arthur C Clarke did think this STARCHILD was a newer higher state of being, similar looking to us but MUCH different & that it was many thousands of years later (when he wrote the 1st book) I just don't know.

But clearly the end of the film is showing us either this A) this ultimate evolutionary JUMP or simply BOWMAN being reborn but again perhaps as a higher being or perhaps to start his life over YET AGAIN...as we are stuck in a time loop.
I tend to believe it is A) but you could also argue a C) D) or E) it's WHAT makes it such a TERRIFIC film...well that & the SPECTACLE of it ALL.

And with that....

here's a SUPER TRAILER for the film & some thoughts on the film by another guy...who kinda thinks it's just an urge to SURVIVE (I get that but it can't just be about this!!!)

THE STARGATE SEQUENCE...Where did he go ?

So many possibilities?

Was he taken within his own mind perhaps? OR as seems to be the case to an ACTUAL strange place? entering by way of that MONOLITH close to JUPITER & through the ultimate stargate to a place where a HIGHER INTELLIGENCE AWAITS (We might even call them GODS?) a species we never physically see in the movie but one that implement changes to Bowman's DNA to create a better, more reasoning type of HUMAN.

We probably can't help the way we currently are? even we quiet, thinking & peaceful types still have at times an ANGER & BATTLE mode within us

And what of the HAL 9000 Computer...isn't DOUGLAS RAIN (the voice of) WONDERFUL ?

Is HAL fully A.I. ?

Will we EVER get to the point where WE almost become something akin to a GOD by creating an entirely new species such as this?

Can you imagine that? ok it may be what we call a COMPUTER but one that is SO much MORE.

If ever FULLY capable of Artificial Intelligence & of Independent Thinking WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS for HUMANS ?

Once we go here...to this point...THERE is NO GOING BACK (well unless we do invent the Time Machine? which we may well do one day)

Such a machine that becomes fully aware of itself & with independent thinking could be more POWERFUL than ALL the HUMANS put together that have EVER LIVED? it will almost certainly have access to every piece of information ever collected on databases around the world, would be smart enough to CRACK CODES & as in the "Terminator" movies LAUNCH missiles & the like should it wish to do so.

It's one of the reasons I love those Terminator movies & also the wonderful MGM film "WARGAMES" (THERE WAS NO WAY to WIN...thank god for TICK TACK TOE huh?)

It's funny really for we might become something akin to a GOD creating LIFE which actually may become an even more powerful GOD than the one that created it (us)

The QUESTION is...SHOULD WE? it might have ideas way beyond one's we could reason with.

Interesting times ahead but perhaps we should have a CUT OFF POINT from fully achieving fully independent thinking AI's even though the sound of such a thing is AMAZING & somewhat THRILLING.

Well they say 'You learn something NEW every day' & well ok this was yesterday but still if I knew this at one time I just didn't remember...so this was BIG NEWS to me regarding this EPIC film.

As a huge fan of this film (2001) i am surprised at myself for NOT knowing this fact (how did this happen?) but it's interesting & really rather amusing considering my recent postings on Triangular & Pyramid shapes here, there & well everywhere in our own SYSTEM.

SO you can guess what this was...

THE MONOLITH was originally to have been a TETRAHEDRON (in other words PYRAMID shaped) this AMUSES me no end. you see i HONESTLY remember reading a story somewhere? internet I think? or hearing it? radio? or Tv? that stated that ARTHUR C.CLARKE who by this time was a BIG name within the Science Fiction community field had BEEN TOLD that something HAD been DISCOVERED upon OUR MOON.

How can I say if this is true or not? all I can tell you is I recall someone relaying this story but I find it funny that he would later go on to write possibly the BIGGEST science fiction novel (to date) called "THE SENTINEL" and that this MONOLITH was originally to have been PYRAMID shaped.

Now this is AMUSING to me because of the Triangular shaped SHIP? for what else could it have been? hovering over the MOON's surface during APOLLO 17's Mission & then that OVER-EXPOSED Photo (same Mission) showing the same shaped object (Triangular / Pyramid or Tetrahedron if you like) but this time it was planted on the MOON...FUNNY that huh?

There are also other similar shaped objects (so it would seem?) on our MOON...just take a look again at that "HORIZON - Signals" episode those folks from TABBY's STAR have a photographic poster of the MOON just like Apollo 15's mission control who also had the STRANGEST of photographic posters pinned on that back wall with ALL KINDS of STRANGELY SHAPED STRUCTURES upon it....that one is a real MYSTERY! although if you put 2 + 2 together you might just come up with the right & logical answer.
TABBY's STAR's TEAM which also had a similar sized photographic poster at the back whilst being filmed showed a clear PYRAMID like shaped structure!

Add in that APOLLO 17 reflection...ALSO showing a Pyramid like shaped structure & FOR GOOD MEASURE (why not there's enough PYRAMID's too go around) that picture of "CAMELOT" the Crater close to where this mission (APOLLO 17) put down...one of only a few decent one's I can find of it & which too also appears to show such an object?

And you can see why this news of 2001 originally having an object this shaped THRILLS ME....the artist impressions show such a shaped object & they even built the thing....so it was VERY LATE into the filming that this was CHANGED now WHY was this?

Did the guy that told Arthur C. Clarke get a little edgy about the fact they were filming a movie in which such an object in it? and perhaps he had got to Clarke? Kubrick? or the folks making the picture to tell them if they could change it?
Even if not the case the fact that originally it was this shape is AMAZING to me....and YES surprisingly you might have guessed by this that I have never read the actual BOOK naughty CHRISSY, always planned too but was just so delighted with the film (and yet I read each & everyone of the sequels!!! GO FIGURE! the best book supposedly I have never read which is why I knew nothing of the shape of this SENTINEL)

So a PYRAMID shape structure on the MOON!!!

Who'd a THOUGHT IT? well not me that's for sure...but I do now, I also think there's more than just a PYRAMID type on the MOON & although many of you folks may laugh at that (and it's ok, I understand how it sounds) your kids or grandkids may well recall the story you once told them of some crazy guy talking about pyramids or strange structures upon our own MOON one day & that it was TRUE.

Humans have been around in a blink of an eye, the MOON is the size of the USA & although we have been mapping it & taking photo's of it with probes still NO HD SUPER SHOTS showing 'CAMELOT' a curiously named CRATER I think...not from these or the actual mission that sat down close to it (APOLLO 17) and yet I am the ONLY ONE that finds that STRANGE!!!

Just a couple of un-altered photographs showing this place (ALL OF IT) would dispel any notions of such things or structures within this but I don't see that happening any time soon because I think I've put 2 & 2 together and NOW have the RIGHT ANSWER, although if I have put 2 & 2 together & come to the wrong conclusion then come on NASA clear these up for me?

1) What was that Triangular Shaped object? (within that original NASA taken photograph) that was approaching the MOON during APOLLO 17 ?
Was it a huge PAPER AEROPLANE perhaps thrown up by the Astronauts?

2) How come this very same shaped object (as above) an EQUALATRAL type PYRAMID end up either later or earlier on this same mission but this time is was taken (over-exposed?) actually parked on the MOON....explain this object?
NASA you do know because that statement given saying they don't even know if this was part of the ROVER is clearly NONSENSE, even I can tell you it was no such part of the ROVER & the clues are right there...WHAT ARE YOU HIDING ?

3) The REFLECTIONS in the APOLLO 17 visor (whist holding the American Flag) clearly shows a part of the MOON we have NOT seen in pictures before.
WHERE was this? and how can a triangular shaped object be seen if there wasn't any?

4) Was this reflection photo taken within the crater known as 'CAMELOT' ?
For one of the few photographs showing this place does seem to show such curiously strange structures & not just pyramid shaped!!!

5) And this I guess could be unrelated to NASA? as it deals with TABBY's STAR team who seemed to have that photographic poster pinned up on the back wall there (again like APOLLO 15) in the BBC HORIZON 'Alien Signals' episode which is damned curious to me!
And it showed as I say a pyramid like structure & yes if it's space related then NASA probably DO have their hands on or partly on this too

GO AHEAD...everything I have pointed out & mentioned here is TRUE....go search them out yourself, I have tried to do it for you to enlighten you, to let you know what is probably out there close to us, I can't help it if it seems OUT of THIS WORLD because...well, IT IS.

As for the story concerning Arthur C Clarke & the story told to him? well I just wish I could recall where it was I heard or saw this so I could make a short cut to it for yourselves to read...if TRUE it makes this film (2001) even more EPIC in my eyes.

And here is the PART 4 of HOW KUBRICK (the genius) made such an AMAZING, CLEVER & INTELLIGENT science fiction film...why PART 4?

But right at the beginning of this 4th PART you will see the artist's impression of this MONOLITH & even that FACT that they made such a shaped OBJECT for the film is well STRANGE, might be an innocent change? anyone know? but if this was the shape in the BOOK, then the artists followed suit & so the go ahead was given to actual create such a shaped STRUCTURE for the film THAT WAS MADE why? did they change it so late?...TAKE A LOOK...
