I'm getting closer to 50

I'm a fan of the old British POP CHARTS programme "TOP OF THE POPS" you folks in the UK will remember this...I miss it but being this age now I don't think it would be the same for me thesedays? I fondly remember it from the 1970's as a kid (enjoying Legs & Co) and during the 1980's as a teen when the likes of DURAN DURAN, & MADONNA took over the charts.

But I found this week's re-run episode on BBC4 very interesting...

First up GEORGE MICHAEL straight in at No 14 (these were the days when such a new entry chart position was considered fairly high, many entered just inside the Top 40 and slowly moved up the chart before hopefully reaching the No1 spot) with the classic "CARELESS WHISPER" a GEM of a SONG with a brilliant Guitar riff & STUNNING VIDEO...at that age the two ladies featured here were appealing
We only lost George recently but this song has GREAT MEANING to me as I had just turned 16 at this point & well that's an age when you experience things you fondly remember & this is included in those memories for me (if i'm not mistaken? it does reach No1 & stays there for quiet awhile & rightly so)
He created some wonderful songs & say what you like about "WHAM" & his friend Andrew Ridgely? but THOSE were FUN SONGS!
"LAST CHRISTMAS" is a song that might always be played one way or another here in BRITAIN around Christmas Time.

But it's the Number 1 song here that is the interesting part for if it were RE-RELEASED today I BET YOU there is EVERY CHANCE it would take that slot again, especially with what's happening in the world right now it's perhaps more APT than ever.

I speak of FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD's 2nd Number 1 song "TWO TRIBES"
They had a GREAT RUN of 3 Number 1's with this, the controversial "RELAX" banned by the BBC for years! & then the BRILLIANT Christmas Song "The Power of Love" and then they were GONE (in most people's eyes) but what 3 songs!!!

Back then it was USA vs RUSSIA
Now it's USA vs NORTH KOREA
So nothing really changes, except both of these guys (supposedly) in charge of these two nations are (BLANK) you fill in the Blank

And now TRUMP has provoked IRAN into joining in the MISSILE Race again!

I still cannot believe how many NUMPTY leaders we have on this PLANET at this TIME...How does this happen?

So change the VIDEO to show lookalikes of TRUMP of the USA & KIM JONG UN of North Korea & then replay the SONG and what you have is as relevant today as it was back then in the early 80's.
Like I said NOTHING CHANGES...The HUMAN RACE continues to frustrate many of us, a shame we can't just send 'em all to the MOON (or other body) and let them get on with it, leaving this BEAUTIFUL PLANET to we GOOD FOLK.

This is the better song but there's no doubting FRANKIE has a good catchy sound but this is is just a TERRIFIC Song & VIDEO.

And WHAT IN THE WORLD is THIS??? what a DISCOVERY a similar but different version of the VIDEO & the song is sung different too.
I don't ever recall seeing this before, very interesting, it's good but it's not the classic like the one above which for me is FAR FAR BETTER but it's worth a look (spotted it at the side of finding this one on YOUTUBE)

Oh & did anyone see the irony of the Russian Leader in this FRANKIE video now LOOKING like the American president TRUMP

Come back in 30 years time (if we are still here?) and we could probably do the same again

What a silly, stupid, mixed up RACE we are!

Well i had this playing in the background again last night & noticed George Michael's 'Careless Whisper' (that more soulful 1st version above) was a new entry at No12 (NOT 14) but i also noticed something else...

FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD's TOTP performance had them brandishing gun holsters & GUNS!!!

This would NEVER BE ALLOWED today, i don't really have a problem with it, it's a performance, even my teen crush KATE BUSH brandished a gun & rifle in her EPIC Hammersmith LIVE Concert.

It was something i found interesting, as the political correct brigade would be in uproar if a modern group showed up say on JOOLS HOLLAND's late night music show doing the same.
In reality, i HATE them, like most weapons nothing GOOD comes from them (EXCEPT for the FACT that they (sadly) may act as a DETERENT) and yet in the fantasy world of Films & Tv i must admit they have provided me with much entertainment (which i can separate & look on as CARTOON Violence) that may surprise some of you reading this as i BANG ON ABOUT 'PEACE' & 'LOVE' but it's the WORLD in which we sadly currently LIVE.
