Paul Conway created the topic: A little POLITICS? Why not! Not much LM1 Talk here
Ok let's have a bit of politics talk (i'm sure most of you folks in Britain have discussed many of these choices) and there's not much happening here in terms of LM1 talk so why not?

So there you have it a Brexit has occurred.

I was on the fence right up to the final days, although i did favour one side of the argument (just) 52% vs 48% is right! close call.

In an ideal world the E.U. would have worked out perfectly and say what you like about Margaret Thatcher (I wasn't a huge fan) but she kinda knew what was coming.

The trouble with the EU is deep down they didn't like Britain (or so it seemed to many) that much.

The Jean-Claude Juncker type is what's wrong with Europe (you can probably see what side of the fence I came down on in the end now can't you?)

I pray and hope I made the right choice for Britain...

Of course the City of London as well as a few other city centres such as Manchester & Livepool (bit of a shock that one) voted to remain as they have the BIG money and a good deal of the POWER (and it was no surprise to me that the markets went crazy in the first few days after Brexit, what will happen to all their money!!!) but it was the every day man & woman of Great Britain that voted for out and for some good reasons...

1) TRUST & RESPECT...
The likes of Mr Juncker were not the type most Brits liked (paid plenty of money, seem to do very little but tell Britain what to do and when to do it), i am not a huge fan of Nigel Farage's either but he gave as good as he took, sadly for Nigel he's just too extreme in his views but like him the majority of brits were tired of hearing of such unelected bureaucrats telling us what to do, how to do it and when (and Juncker's still at it even now) some of the POWER needed to be returned to the UK...the EU had way too much power over us (or so it seemed)
This way we can yet again vote out the people in power (the MP's) in our own country if we don't like where things are heading.

2) MONEY...
Too much money was heading out of the UK to the EU...330 million per week wasn't exactly correct (we got approx half of this back but the EU even had control of where this went!) so approx. 160 million went to the EU...good value? it would appear not but then again maybe? if we end up paying silly tarrifs then we may have to do the same in revenge...it's all so sad and a real shame really isn't it.

IT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY!!!
The EU simply didn't not listen to the concerns of the British government and people...had they done so we'd still most likely be in the EU.

The trouble was this amount is that surely it would have only increased as the EU got larger? with countries far poorer entering the EU which to me did not seem logical....who next Russia into the EU :silly:

How much would Britain have been paying into the EU in 10, 20, 30 years time? my guess would be far more than the 330 million currently but might this have been offset by extra money brought in by being in the EU? who knows?
Sadly for Germany, France, Spain and Italy (the so called bigger countries economically) they will now have to take on this burden once article 50 is confirmed and with Greece and Spain still struggling can they afford it? it may well be they try to hit Britain with these massive tarrifs now because of our Brexit...that's when we need strong leadership and to say no if it gets really crazy!!! they cannot hold Britain to ransom because of this, otherwise i'd almost say go cold turkey and start Britain from scratch (even if Scotland (sadly) decides to leave us.

3) Immigration...
This was a biggie for many in Britain, many saw these poorer immigrants (and i really can't blame 'em...if you were in their shoes as wouldn't you try to do the same?) coming to Britain claiming benefit money, taking jobs, houses, school places and putting pressure on our health service.
I have some sympathy with this view, it can't be right we are dictated to as to who we have to take into the UK (it could get silly, especially in the future with the increase in EU country members)
There has to be some degree of control surely?
Free movement in an idea world where everyone is the same...BRILLIANT. a Utopian World, WHO WOULDN'T WANT THIS? (I would LOVE everyone to have the same good things) but people from eastern European countries have totally different views (political & religious) to ours and some are entering with questionable objectives...sadly with the increase of nations into the EU and more to come...we needed some degree of CONTROL.

Migrants should ALWAYS be WELCOMED to this country...but we should get to choose...isn't this sensible?

Wasn't the figure something like the population of Leicester were entering Britain every year!!!! that simply could not go on? or am I wrong?

As for Space projects and the like? yes it they may well suffer in the short term, the funding may sadly go elsewhere but I had to put Britain first before this.

Yes I voted Brexit

Am I sure I made the right decision? No, I am not and it was taken with a heavy heart, it should NEVER have come to this, the EU wasn't ALL bad.

After all this King Boris may well be crowned our next Prime Minister soon...as for Jeremy Corbyn!!!! don't even get me started! even he looked amazed to have become Labour leader (makes Ed Miliband look like J.F.K) Corbyn gets much of he support from the Unions it seems to me (so old fashioned! and still powerful within the Labour Party) he has NEVER looked or sounded like a Prime Minister in waiting, some of his views are downright silly (Re-Nationalise the Power companies & the Railway's? probably shouldn't have been privatised in the first place? but how in the world could he afford to do this now???) some of his alliances are highly questionable and the one quote that always angers me is what would he do if there were a terror attack similar to that in Paris? he was asked would he give the order to shoot on sight, he replied he would try to negotiate with them  yup he really has no idea and he probably LOVES Putin & Russia too....the resignation of nearly half his cabinet tells you all you need to know...LABOUR MADE ONE HUGE MISTAKE! sort it out!

Sadly, the World seems to be getting stranger and the choice of Leaders worse.

The young in this country are angry with the older folk because of this choice (and ok i'm not that old, still in my 40's) but I hope they can see that we were trying to do this with the BEST INTENTIONS for this INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL Country of ours.

Stick together folks we are STRONGER as a whole and I shall forever consider myself fortunate to have been born into such a FANTASTIC open, beautiful, caring place as the UK.

Who's up for a new community on the MOON? LM-10 to deliver our first President of the Moon...Moi of course

WHAT A MESS!!!

How much do we pay these politicians each year?

Be honest...Didn't you see this coming though? or at least some of it? the scale right now is right out of a movie, it's not just in this country either! there are some truly awful politicans worldwide, anyone would think we're been taking over by blank blank :silly:
Would a President Trump make the World a better or worse place do you think? he is one self centred fella to me with a real nasty streak (and this guy could become President of the United States of America)

There may be supporters of Jeremy Corbyn here? and he seems a very nice guy, he really does, one who tried to make politics more agreeable but it was never going to happen (sadly) and as for his leadership? well it is beyond weak recently, the trouble is Labour have no one to really replace him and if he wins a re-run Labour Leader election and wins!!! the Union run party wins and takes control but with very few labour folk left to form a shadow cabinet.

King Boris deposed before he even had the crown fitted, not a fan of the Conservatives (when it comes down to it a good deal of them seem to look after their own...and I think History bears this out) but right now they have a much stronger line-up than Labour to choose from.

Labour the supposed party of the people...shooting themselves in the foot and possibly destroying the party for many many years to come, right now the Conservatives are the obvious party of choice  WOW! never thought i'd say that.

The choice is abysmal and a crying shame.

I wonder how the first Moon City leader will conduct his or her self? maybe at that time all the stupid squabbles over nonsense we have to deal with will be over...Nah, me neither, we'll always find a way of devising conflict with ourselves....a species with such GREAT possibilities and yet look at us right now :(

Ah well...Come on POLAND let's see off that arrogant Portugal striker tonight "Who are you" RONALDO ;)

Damn the arrogant one made it through over Poland :(

"Who are you" is what one of the lip synch experts reported he (Ronaldo) uttered to that player at the end of the Iceland group match  well it seems that guy was part of a real gutsy Iceland side that eventually won over England and made it to a QF of Euro 2016.
Congratulations Iceland (not bad for a country out of the EU huh) ;)

And what's with those strange Ronaldo promotional Ads currenly airing on Tv during these Euro's? that must be the most camp Tv Ad EVER!
I wonder if that Iceland player ever did get the exchange of shirts he wanted? and if he did I hope he makes kitchen tea towels out of them and uses them to mop up spilt tea and the like whilst thinking of the draw they achieved over him

Ok, time for WALES to bring him down a peg or two...COME ON FELLA's...Time for the Dragon to puff out his tournament (year of the underdog)
Great performance over Belgium.

I wonder if a Football Game will ever take place on the Moon? :woohoo:

WHAT in the WORLD is HAPPENING!!!

I try to find the positives in our race (i really do...I think the majority of people are fine and dandy but the POWERS THAT BE  ) but it's at times like this i truly DESPAIR.

Innocent folk being killed in the USA...Good Grief we're ALL HUMAN...really!!! does it really matter what colour, creed, religion, sexual orientation or beliefs you have??? really!!! so long as good and respectful to ALL others.

We just don't seem to be learning...WHAT will it take for us all to get along with each other?

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I actually do feel ALIEN sometimes.

Since the Brexit there are reports of even more race crimes!!! are you kidding me! here in Britain, so if your from other nations in Europe or around the World they are NOT worthy of being here....your skin's a different colour so one's better than the other, PLEASE!!!! COME ON!!! WAKE UP!
We seem to be the only race on this Planet that kill each other (yes I know there are some animal life exceptions but not too many)
I do wonder if on ANY of those ALIEN WORLDS out there ANY of those RACES kill they're own kind? maybe but perhaps once they reach that tipping point most finally discover in the end it's POINTLESS.

Politics...The weak Corbyn continues to limp on (what a sad video he posted...kinda feel for him in some respects but never a Prime Minister was he)
The Labour Party, for now R.I.P. :(

Russia continues it's aggressive stance (how is it that they still have the World Cup Tournament in 2018?)

Hilary Clinton vs Donald Trump to become the President of the United States :(

Hilary was recently investigated by the FBI over sensitive documents & e-mails....CURIOUS...WHY NOW? it has been rumoured that were she to become president she might have been willing to be THE ONE to final disclose (or try to disclose) certain information that would have become EARTH changing, one of her aides came out with an interesting statement (approx 1 year ago) that surely must have had a ring of truth about it? you can probably guess the subject I am talking about ;)
So could this mean Mr Trump makes it to the WhiteHouse? maybe, yikes! or maybe Hilary makes it but this will have shook her so much that the above now never happens on her watch.

Hong Kong's FREEDOM is being tested.

At least thee is SOME GOOD NEWS for us in the UK :cheer:
Britain will be getting a new Prime Minister and it's a WOMAN (3 cheers) :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Both seem determined & intelligent and even though i voted Brexit  (I hope this was right?) i would plump for Teresa May I think, she seems to be the logical candidate with her political experience but by all means bring her opponent into the cabinet afterwards, she seems like a tough cookie? and it appears she won't be a pushover in negotiations once article 50 has been triggered (although in truth they should have already started now)

If nothing else (if LM1 doesn't ever make it off the launch pad) well at least it's a niche place to have aired some views and to people that are hopefully open to reasonable debate and ideas...TWITTER & FACEBOOK and the like seem so BRUTAL.

That's it i guess for now, SAD world but i'm ever the OPTIMIST but perhaps we really do need a WAKE UP CALL.

THERESA MAY...Congratulations to our next Prime Minister...a GOOD choice I feel and I very much liked her speech after being confirmed as such, trying to bring everyone in this country together, she could be the one to do it too.

More good news...Boeing invested in us, that's good right? we can open up trade with other parts of the world too...the markets over time will calm and we can hopefully ALL head in the right direction for this SUPER Country (PLEASE Stay SCOTLAND? don't forget you'll lose funding from the UK if you go and sadly I still believe the EU is heading in the wrong direction, they just do NOT listen to you, if they did we might still be in there helping to shape it...but hey, it's your choice as it was ours, i am sure we would happily welcome you back with open arms if as I suspect you struggle going alone with them, the SCOTS are WONDERFUL folk)

Many of the old Etonians seem to have gone (in reality probably not) but it's looking better and right now the CONSERVATIVE party seem more capable than the LABOUR party who are still in big trouble...if Corbyn wins again then his shadow cabinet will prove to be an interesting one with very little experience in there and could this outcome be a start of the break-up of the labour party? some 7 out of 10 of the shadow cabinet resigned so those that work with him day in day out knew something was up but he has the grass roots support and of of course McKlusky;s Union support (my sister is a special needs teaching assistant and when she needed her union to help her out they left her high and dry)
Angela Eagle seems better than Corbyn but that's not difficult but she still has leftie tendencies...is there NO ONE better? someone from the middle of the party?

Personally I think it's right that Teresa May gets down to sorting the country out and NOT holding yet another general election (even though I understand those that might want this) the party voted in is still the same only a short time afterwards and if she and her new team get good deals (free movement is going to be tricky one though and almost a no go area for most that voted out) and good trading deals then I can almost certainly see her being voted back in...she seems a decent and good person with some experience.

I wish Theresa May all the BEST (she'll need it) she listens apparently and that's always a good thing but is also strong,
I don't think she will buckle to the likes of Juncker.

Probably my last posting in this politics section :P
Although they say a day is a long time in politics (or is it a week?)

Anyway, Theresa May...GREAT start from her I think, no messing about, a good BIG cabinet re-shuffle, Boris is in there (he's goofy and a lot of fun but I do think & hope he's more intelligent than people give him credit for)

Angela's in there (no not that one! where is our LM1 Angela? ah well) Angela Leadsom, i thought she was excellent in the debate speaking (very much like LM1's Angela actually also a very good speaker) and she'll do well I think.

A Conservative Cabinet with less Eton boys is good and this is a team I think the people of Britain can rally too.

I leave this topic with this terrific and hopefully song from Curtis Mayfield..."NEVER WORRY TOO LONG ABOUT WHAT'S GOING WRONG" just 'Keep On Keeping On'
