Hi Paul, I'm conscious that this is a project for all ages so I wanted to include a couple of films that I thought kids would enjoy. When I was thinking about the list I remembered how during the Kickstarter phase many supporters purchased their place in space for children. Robots has wonderfully imaginative designs and a narrative with its heart in the right place - but after a re-watch over the weekend I've decided to replace it with the superb WALL-E. Thanks for your comments that encouraged me to re-visit my choice!

Hi Mike, I have seen Robots (Robin Williams voiced wasn't it?) at the time I didn't much care for it but it's been awhile, maybe
when on Tv again I shall give it another go.

I was very much a child (or very young teen) when my father recommended I watch this film called '2001 : A Space Odyssey'
It blew me away even at such a young age and is still I think my favourite SF to this day.

Here's a few more of my favourite Science Fiction Films (not in any particular order)

Alien / Aliens
The Last Starfighter
Blade Runner
Star Wars (ALL) including the prequels but the originals still best (so far)
Star Trek's 1,2,3,4,6 (The Undiscovered Country) and 8 (First Contact) and JJ's
The Time Machine
E.T.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
John Carter (of Mars)
The Black Hole
Robocop
King Kong (ok slipped that one in there, Fantasy rather than SF but the original 30's version is wonderful)
Men in Black
Dredd (Karl Urban version) i enjoy Stallone's more 'Hollywood' version too.
Terminator 1,2 and 3
Total Recall (Schwarznegger's)
Westworld
Rollerball
Logan's Run
Planet of the Apes (original)
Escape from New York
Flash Gordon (80's camp classic) now about to get the remake treatment
Barbarella (camp fun with an amazing performance from Jane Fonda, she worked wonders here)
Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow
Fantastic Voyage
Solylent Green (hope that never happens!!!)
The Fifth Element (This director has real style and i loved 'Leon')
In Time
Looper
strange Invaders
Interstellar (i need to see this a few more times)

There are many many more i could list including a number of low budget B-Movies from the 1970's & 80's.
Phase IV is very quirky with the strangest of endings!

This is fun, & there's some nice photo's too, check it out here...

Give me a chance Abi, so many threads to keep up with
Lot's of Gerry Anderson fans in here, Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, UFO and Space Precinct were all great and I am currently enjoying the new Thunderbirds Are Go with my son. I'm glad Paul mentioned Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it is good and a lot less child friendly than the big screen Marvel films. Fawkes, your spoiler hidden Star Wars piece has kind of destroyed the saga! Hopefully you are right and The Force Awakens saves the plot! Paul, you MUST see The Lego Movie!!!

Moon- really really good, quite emotional.
Looper- best time travel film since 12 Monkeys and Back to the Future.
Blade Runner- beautifully shot and profound but nothing like the book, which isn't a bad thing, still worth a read though.
Star Trek- Not a huge fan but The Wrath of Khan is truly great.
Star Wars- the best "Star" franchise
Alien and Aliens- each one completely different but both cinema classics
Terminator 1,2 and Salvation- time travel makes NO sense but Arnie is the man!
Total Recall (1990)- the Mars One crew should watch this before they go
Apollo 13- very well made and deserving of the Best Editing Oscar it won
Flash Gordon- genuinely entertaining and great soundtrack
Highlander- worth it to see a frenchman play a scotsman and a scotsman playing a spanish egyptian, and a great soundtrack
Close Encounters of the Third Kind- easily the most awe-inspiring spaceship scene ever
Minority Report- great thriller with a great Tom Cruise performance
